When a parent can no longer safely live independently, the family faces decisions on multiple fronts simultaneously — finding the right care setting, managing the financial logistics, supporting the emotional weight of the change, and figuring out what to do with the family home.

Step 1: Understand the Housing Options

Arizona offers a range of residential care options for seniors, from independent living to memory care. Understanding the differences helps families make the right choice:

• Independent Living Communities: For seniors who can live independently but want social engagement and convenience. Typically do not provide personal care services.
• Assisted Living Facilities: Provide help with daily activities (bathing, dressing, medication management) while supporting independence. Licensed and regulated by the Arizona Department of Health Services.
